The Lakeland Home Help Company was started by a qualified social worker. Our aim is to help people thrive in their own homes and in the community.
We recognise that there are many people in the community who need assistance with day to day tasks, including attending appointments, shopping, housework, gardening, and DIY.
In addition, maintaining hobbies, friendships and engaging in social opportunities can become very difficult.
We also recognise that family members sometimes need assistance in order to have a break and we can help with this by providing companionship.
We are based in Ulverston, Cumbria, with knowledge of the local community and local services available.
We have a wealth of experience in working with people and in the community. All Home Helpers have DBS checks and are fully insured.

We offer bespoke services that cater to each individual's needs, working closely with clients to understand their routines and preferences, and tailoring our services to fit into their lives seamlessly.
We do not provide personal care but can work alongside local carers and agencies and together we can enhance your wellbeing.
We don't wear a uniform. We want to blend in, and just be at your side, assisting you, in whatever we are doing.

The Lakeland Home Help Company offers a bespoke chaperone service; we will attend an event with you, whether it is a family wedding, christening, or other celebration. We will help you to attend, remain with you at the event and escort you home. This can be helpful for other family members, who have many demands on their time but would like you to be part of family events.
Please see the menu below for more detailed descriptions of the services we offer.
The list is not exhaustive and we are happy to discuss how we can help you and work flexibly to enhance your wellbeing.
We cover the South Lakeland area but are happy to discuss visiting clients further afield if required. Our charges are based on the Ulverston area and up to 5 miles radius. We will adjust charges accordingly for clients outside of this area.
We offer shopping assistance for clients who simply need an extra pair of hands to assist with their shopping, and perhaps would like to be driven to and from the shops. This can enable you to maintain some essential independence but to feel confident as you will have a member of the Lakeland Home Help Team with you from door to door.
We also offer a Shopping Service for those clients who are no longer able to go to the shops but want to make some independent choices about their shopping. You may have a favourite supermarket but also like to have certain items from the local greengrocer or butchers and we will follow your instructions and collect your shopping from your favourite places.
Keeping on top of all the housework can become challenging. We can offer assistance with tasks, such as light dusting, vacuuming, mopping floors, doing the laundry, ironing and changing beds.
You may want to do some of these tasks yourself and we can do them alongside you, making things easier. There may be some tasks which have now become too much and we will happily complete those for you.
We can help with cutting the lawn and light weeding. We can also assist you if gardening is your passion but some aspects have become difficult. We will be happy to take you to a garden centre if that is something you enjoy.
If DIY is a hobby for you we can help you to continue by assisting you when needed. Sometimes completing DIY tasks can become challenging but we will help you to continue doing the things you enjoy, where possible.
We can also arrange for simple DIY tasks to be completed, such as fitting a key safe, changing bulbs, repairing small items around the home and garden. When we are unable to help directly we can assist you to find someone suitable to complete the task for you.
We know how important pets are but recognise that caring for them without help can be challenging.
We can assist you to walk your dog, or walk the dog for you when you are not able to. We can collect pet food and feed pets if this is becoming difficult to manage.
We know how difficult it can be to attend appointments, especially if transport is an issue.
We can assist you to attend appointments by collecting you from home, taking you to the appointment, staying with you and taking you back home, ensuring you arrive home safely.
We recognise that family members will try to assist you with appointments but with other demands, including work and family, this can become very difficult, so our assistance can offer reassurance that you will get to your appointment, safely and with a companion by your side.
Maintaining relationships and accessing community events is very important for your wellbeing.
We can help you to have regular outings, go to a cafe for coffee and a cake, or lunch. We can assist you to meet up with friends and we can accompany you to social groups or activities in the local community. If you enjoy going for a walk or visiting a local beauty spot, we can do this with you. We aim to help you to continue enjoying life to the full.
You may have always enjoyed gardening, walking, going swimming, baking, playing bingo, going to the cinema or theatre, seeing live music, playing board games, completing jigsaws, reading, sewing, woodwork, the list could go on and on....
We know that continuing to do these things is beneficial for your overall wellbeing and our aim is to help you enjoy these things, with our assistance.
We recognise how many possessions most of us have in our homes and at times this can become overwhelming.
We can work alongside you to help you to reduce the burden of this. We can do this gradually and gently. We recognise how difficult it can be to let go of things.
We can help you to work out which items are important to you and which items you might be ready to part with. We can also help you to organise items to make living in your home more manageable.
We can assist you to manage paperwork, dealing with organisations and with technical issues. This could include help with understanding letters sent to you about benefits, ensuring you can attend appointments on time, making calls to your family or friends, or using social media to have face to face calls with people who live far away.
This can be very helpful in keeping you connected with people who are important to you.
We have met many people who have been unable to attend a family celebration because there is nobody available to take them or ensure they are assisted at the event.
We can accompany you to an event, remain with you during the event, and escort you home when you are ready to leave.
We can take the pressure off family members, who may have many other demands on them at the time, whilst also ensuring you can be part of important events.
This special service would be planned and discussed in detail to ensure any other necessary support needed is in place on the day, such as personal care through a private carer or agency.
